"So everything is necessary. Every least thing. This is the hard lesson. Nothing can be dispensed with. Nothing despised. Because the seams are hid from us, you see. The joinery. The way in which the world is made. We have no way to know what could be taken away. What omitted. We have no way to tell what might stand and what might fall." -Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing

Victor The Swordsman, (intro)
Victor had considered for a long time whether to exclude certain species from his list. The problem had come when he couldn't come up with a concrete set of rules that would only exclude what he deemed 'trivial animals'. Mus Musculus, the common house mouse, for example is not a threatening animal, but it is by no means trivial to dispatch one with a katana. This is especially true when one has had no formal training in swordsmanship, as was the case with Victor. It was always his plan to learn as he went, by taking on smaller challenges at first.
